Woof Tour of the Twin Holy Cities Woof! was released to New York City on May 29 at Glass Lounge where I had the pleasure of spending a few hours with my delish illustrator Jason O’Malley and a hundred of our very closest friends. A perfect rose Prosecco proved the ideal fuel to get the party rolling, compliments of Mionetto.
Among our many guests were author Mordecai Siegal, a past president of the Dog Writers Association of America. Yes, there really is such an organization! The current president, Amy Fernandez also arrived bear a fabulous little naked dog for us to adore. Amy breeds gorgeous Chinese Cresteds, and this suave guy was one of more than 100 champions she’s bred.
We were delighted to see that Charlotte Reed crashed the party! Charlotte’s one of NYC’s great dog promoters and authors. She has a terrific new book on dog etiquette, and when she sends me a signed copy I’ll tell you the whole title.
Another great dog author was in our presence in the person of William Secord. He’s written three enormous coffeetable books about dogs in art (Dog Painting, Dog Painting: The European Breeds, and A Breed Apart), published by the Antique Collectors’ Club. They make awesome gifts, and you can buy them online or directly at Bill’s gallery (The William Secord Gallery is at 52 East 76th Street, between Park and Madison Avenues. That’s a nice part of town, so wear your good jeans.) The gallery is so worth the trip, and Bill Secord is about the classiest gentleman alive in any city on the planet. Tell him I sent you.
Nikki Moustaki, a great pal of mine and a hell of a writer, was also in attendance (though her male dancers were too tired to accompany her). Nikki’s written a few books, and her latest book Pocket Pups is a winner! It’s very girl bitchy and full of great photos.
Speaking of entertainers, the party was well attended by many terrific cabaret singers and one Puerto Rican girl rapper—Miss Angelina! Boys, check her out. Even if rap ain’t your scene, Miss A! turns it out and is always entertaining. (The other half of Miss A is Italian, so we go way back.) This past weekend, Miss Angelina turned it on for the queens in Queens. Happy Pride! Michael Monks from Camp Bow Wow (in Midland Park, NJ) was also there. Mike has an Australian Shepherd named “Keller,” smartly named after one of the gay prisoners on his favorite soap, as well as a rescue dog. If you’re looking for a great place to leave your dog for the day or on vacation, go to Camp Bow Wow. (Not to mention, Michael is very woofy!...and single, I hear). Emmy winner Patrick McDonough and his partner Michael Burst were also in attendance. The fabulous floral arrangement came from Michael’s shop is on Hudson Street between Charles and Perry. Thanks to all of our friends who were there, as well as the book buyers, reps and so forth. Special thanks to Mary Bloom, one of the dog world’s great photographers and an old friend, for taking such delish pix of everyone! Stay tuned for the other Holy City Tour, the one on the Bay!
